Emily King shrugs off perils of eventing as she tries to emulate her triumphant mum… before they bid for Olympic history

Emily King has been going to Badminton to watch her mother compete since she was a baby. They will be there again this week, but this year mum Mary, one of Britain’s most successful eventers, will be watching instead.

‘I’m not nervous, I’m excited for her. I just wish I was doing it, too,’ says Mary, who has won Badminton twice (1992 and 2000). Mary, 54, has also ridden at the last six Olympic Games, winning medals in the last three, and it is a family dream that mother and daughter can compete together for Great Britain.
